Responsibilities
The Federal Returning Officer and his deputy are appointed for an indefinite period of time by the Federal Minister of the Interior. In view of the duties pertaining to the post and the technical means available, appointing the President of the Federal Statistical Office Federal Returning Officer has proved to be an advantage.
The Federal Returning Officer
Dr. Ruth Brand was appointed President of the Federal Statistical Office and Federal Returning Officer on 15 December 2022 with effect from 1 January 2023.
Deputy Federal Returning Officer
Heinz-Christoph Herbertz is a qualified lawyer and has been working at the Federal Statistical Office since 1990.
